David Gibbs has worked at Texas Tech for fewer than eight months, but didn’t need long to get the lay of the land.
Some of the Red Raiders’ beaten-down psyche, he witnessed. The rest, he could guess just from looking at the record — both last year and over the longer term.
“These kids are hungry,” the Red Raiders’ new defensive coordinator said one day in August. “They’re embarrassed. They’re not different than the coaches and the fans.
“You can imagine their off-season. They’ve been treated ... .”
He didn’t finish the sentence, but any Tech observer can fill it in.
