IRVING -- Texas Tech coach Chris Beard has no problems with R.J. Hampton continuing his basketball career in New Zealand.
Ranked as a five-star recruit, the Little Elm guard announced Tuesday that he would eschew the traditional college basketball route and turn pro.
"Each guy takes different routes," Beard said at Big 12 spring meetings. "He knows exactly where he's trying to get. There were different avenues for him to get there. He'll eventually get to the destination he wants."
Texas Tech was listed as one of Hampton's three college finalists, along with Kansas and Memphis, before he opted for a different approach.
