Big 12 stands behind Texas Tech safety's ejection

The Big 12 Conference stood behind the targeting call and ejection of Texas Tech safety Jah’Shawn Johnson in Saturday’s game against Oklahoma State.

The events again raised the issue about the appropriateness of officials calling games where they live, given that line judge Kelly Deterding from Lubbock threw the flag on the play in question.

The crew ejected Johnson midway through the second quarter when he made a high hit on David Glidden as the Oklahoma State slot receiver was losing his grip on a pass into the right flat. Their facemasks struck, and Johnson wrapped up Glidden just below the shoulders.
