A Texas Tech football player is suing the university claiming wrongful suspension for a Title IX violation

According to a report by the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal, a Texas Tech athlete has filed a suit against the university and president Lawrence Schovanec for a decision in a Title IX hearing that took place on Sept. 15, 2016.

The report says that the lawsuit was filed Nov. 30 by a freshman that joined the football team in January of 2016. The player, who is referred to as "John Doe" in the documents, was suspended for two semesters following an incident in April of 2016.

On Nov. 4, the athlete appealed the Title IX hearing ruling.
