Little did Joe Robinson know he’d be in charge of Texas Tech special teams in 2016 — at least not on that day in December when he helped scheme against the Red Raiders.
One of Robinson’s coaching buddies from LSU called before the Texas Bowl, confided not wanting to kick to Red Raiders return man Jakeem Grant and solicited Robinson’s ideas. Robinson’s a veteran special teams coach, after all.
“I don’t know how much help I was,” he said. “We sure had a good conversation about it, yeah.”
In the rapidly changing landscape of college coaching, Robinson got hired by Tech about a week later.
