SAN MARCOS, Texas –Texas State junior guard Nijal Pearson added another weekly honor on Tuesday afternoon when he was named the Sun Belt Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week following his stellar performance at the Portland Classic Nov. 21-24. Pearson was chosen the College Sports Madness Mid-Major Player of the Week on Nov. 26 and the Most Valuable Player at the tournament on Nov. 24.
Pearson earned the honors after averaging 24.3 points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.7 steals in three games at the Portland Classic.
He netted a career-high 33 points, five rebounds, three assists and three steals to lead Texas State to a 91-68 victory over Portland in the championship game.
