SAN MARCOS, Texas – Former Texas State track and field member and Texas State alumna Anicka Newell was nominated to compete at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, Team Canada announced yesterday.
Newell qualified for the Canadian Olympic team in the pole vault after finishing second in the event at the Bell track and field trials. At the trials she recorded a mark of 4.38m, which was her 8th-best mark of the season.
This marks the third time in her career that she will represent Canada in the Olympic games. She first qualified for the Olympics in 2016 and competed in Rio de Janeiro, where she posted a mark of 4.
