KANSAS CITY, Mo. – On Wednesday, the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) announced the fifth annual Team Academic Excellence Awards, created by the NABC Committee on Academics. For the first time in program history the Texas State men's basketball team was one of the teams to be recognized for achieving a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better for the 2016-17 season.
In order to earn the NABC Team Academic Excellence Award, institutions in the NCAA, NAIA and NJCAA must count the GPA of all men's student-athletes who competed during the 2016-17 season.
The Bobcats were the lone Sun Belt Conference program to earn the honor and one of eight from the state of Texas.
