Johnson was the first Bobcat to punch a ticket to Eugene, Oregon on Saturday in the men's shot put. The junior clinched his second straight trip to the national championships meet on his final attempt that went 18.55m (60-10.5) and gave him the 12th and final qualify spot.
A few minutes after Johnson's final shot put attempt, the men's 4x100m relay squad earned its spot with a time of 40.32. The foursome finished fourth in the first of three heats and had to wait out the final two heats to see if they would advance to Eugene.
