College Football: Texas State set to earn $4.4 million in guarantee money over next four seasons

Sun Belt commissioner Karl Benson has spoken repeatedly about his conference's "addiction" to the money game.

He's trumpeted the value of more balanced scheduling, where Sun Belt programs play "peer conference" schools, meaning those from the "Group of Five," namely the American Athletic Conference, Conference USA, Mid-American and Mountain West.

Yet, there is little doubt about the importance of guaranteed games when it comes to the budgets of Sun Belt schools.

During the 2015 fiscal year alone, Texas State's football team generated $2.52 million in revenue, but $1.06 million of that came from guaranteed games, or about 42 percent.
