SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State softball opened its 2023 season with a split of Opening Day, falling in the first game against Wichita State 3-2 despite having the game-tying run on third base in the seventh inning before mercy-ruling Kent State 8-0 in the nightcap at Bobcat Softball Stadium.
The Bobcats (1-1) limited both of their opponents to a combined one run and seven hits over the final 11 innings of play on Friday. The starters, Tori McCann (vs. Wichita State) and Karsen Pierce (vs. Kent State), each threw four innings.
