Texas State has accepted an offer to join the Big 12 Conference starting in 2017, the university will announce at a press conference later today.
After University of Oklahoma president David Boren made it clear that the Big 12 was interested in expansion, Houston and SMU among others were rumored as possible additions to the conference.
The league chose the Bobcats instead. Texas State’s inclusion in the Big 12 may come as a surprise to some, but not athletic director Larry Teis.
“They call us the rising star of Texas for a reason,” Teis said.
