NEW YORK - If you are in the process of building an American League contender of the future, there are a few assets that will come in handy.
A top-heavy starting rotation can’t hurt. Nor can a deep bullpen. Or a patient, balanced lineup. And since the road to the World Series almost always runs through The Bronx, a Yankee-killer couldn’t hurt.
The Rangers are still in the process of identifying the first three elements, but, man, Ronald Guzman seems like he will fit just fine in the role of Yankee-punisher. On the merits of his Friday performance alone, he’d pass the audition: Three homers in a 12-7 win.
