SURPRISE, Ariz. - This rebuild of the Rangers is going to take time and commitment.
Know this about the guy who will oversee it on the ground: Chris Woodward may be inexperienced as a major league manager, but he's undertaken a project just like this before. He called it "college."
Having attended college is more the norm than the exception now among major league managers. In the AL West alone, Dartmouth and Stanford are among the institutions represented. But those holding a degree remain in the minority in baseball.
And Woodward is the only manager who can say he started and finished college while still working his day job as a professional baseball player.
