ARLINGTON -- The Rangers are prepared to give left-hander Joe Palumbo an extended look as a starter.
Two follow-ups. How far can they extend him? And are they ready to stop watching Drew Smyly?
General manager Jon Daniels said Tuesday that Palumbo's pending addition to the active roster for Wednesday's start against Cleveland is not a spot start. Palumbo will likely take the spot of somebody who pitched in Tuesday's 10-3 loss to Cleveland. Smyly pitched 3 1/3 innings in the game, allowing five runs and back-to-back-to-back homers in his final inning.
The other option would be sending Peter Fairbanks, who pitched 2 1/3 scoreless innings, back to Triple-A Nashville since he has minor league options remaining.
