BOSTON -- The Rangers and Red Sox wrapped up a series on Thursday that very well could serve as the kickoff to the race for the final AL wild card spot.
It put the “wild” in wild card.
On the way to a 7-6 loss that left them with a split of a four-game series, the Rangers on a chilly, wet Thursday took a five-run lead and lost it almost as quickly. Xander Bogaerts’ two-out homer off Peter Fairbanks in the seventh gave Boston the ultimate lead. It tied for the biggest blown lead of the season for the Rangers.
