Why the Rangers kept Martin Perez out of winter league play

The Texas Rangers have been reminded that it was a good idea not to allow left-hander Martin Perez to pitch for Magallanes in the Venezuela winter league.

Boston left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez, expected to play a significant role for the Red Sox this season, was forced out of a start with Magallanes on Tuesday night during the first inning. Rodriguez's right knee buckled during a pitch, and he went to the ground.

The Red Sox on Wednesday said that Rodriguez "tweaked" the knee, and the injury is not believed to be serious.

There is an injury chance any time a player steps on any field.
