ME: You could make a case for retiring Gonzalez's number, for sure. But one thing that is usually present for a jersey retirement: The actual retiree. Gonzalez was not present when the Rangers inducted him into their Hall of Fame and he's shown no real desire to come back. The team would gladly welcome him back for some end-of-Globe Life Park festivities. And I believe they've reached out to him, too. But you can't force somebody to show up.
And I don't think the Rangers are going to consider bestowing that kind of honor without actually having an honoree on hand.
