Willie Calhoun has come a long way, all right. Last year, before swearing off snacks and Call of Duty into the wee hours, he lost to Drew Robinson, Ryan Rua and Carlos Tocci, which doesn't exactly read like Benintendi, Bradley and Betts. This time he got beat out by Hunter Pence and an eight-man bullpen. Believe it or not, this constitutes progress.
Yet Calhoun, who needed a couple of days to get over the snub, was slow to come around. He figured he'd done everything the Rangers asked. Except hit. Sort of a glaring oversight, too, considering it's, you know, his one and only tool.
