The Texas Rangers have recalled infielder Davis Wendzel from AAA Round Rock, it has been announced. To make room for Wendzel on the active roster, the Rangers have designated outfielder Derek Hill for assignment.
Wendzel came up earlier in the season when the Rangers placed Justin Foscue on the injured list. He ended up slashing .069/.069/.172 in 29 plate appearances before being sent back down to AAA, with his spot on the active roster, ironically, being taken by Hill. With Corey Seager unavailable tonight, and potentially unavailable for a few days, the Rangers need a backup infielder, and so Wendzel gets the nod.
