It's not every day a Major League Baseball player reaches 3,000 hits, an accomplishment Texas Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre reached just over a week ago.
It is something to be celebrated, and during batting practice before a game against the Mets in New York, Beltre received a surprise in the form of a congratulatory 3,000-hit cake.
The cake was a gift from Jordan Lopez, a Dominican barber in New York.
And in the most Beltre of Beltre-like moves, the antithesis of a self-aggrandizing athlete responded to the gesture by throwing his baseball glove at Lopez's shoulder (sparing the cake).
