ARLINGTON -- The Rangers selected Dillon Tate, a right-handed pitcher from UC Santa Barbara, with the fourth overall pick in the 2015 Draft on Monday.
Tate was 8-5 with a 2.26 ERA at Santa Barbara this season with 111 strikeouts in 103 innings. He could end up being a reliever rather than a starter with a plus fastball and slider. He is the highest drafted player out of MLB's Urban Youth Academy.
"Dillon is a wonderful kid," UC Santa Barbara coach Andrew Checketts said. "From a baseball standpoint, he has come from almost nothing into one of the top pitchers in the country.
