The Texas Rangers have optioned catcher Jose Trevino and sent Matt Davidson, Nolan Fontana, Chase d’Arnaud, and Jett Bandy to the minor league camp today, the team announced today.
Davidson is the only player who would qualify as someone seen as having a chance of making the major league team. Davidson was viewed as a possible corner infield option who could also pitch occasionally in mop up duty. However, such a scenario would have required Asdrubel Cabrera to be the team’s backup middle infielder, and the Rangers have indicated of late they are reluctant to have Cabrera focus on anything other than his transition to third base.
