The Detroit Tigers have designated pitcher Mason Englert for assignment to make room for the newly signed pitcher Jack Flaherty.
The reason this is noteworthy and subject of a post is because Englert was originally a fourth round draft pick of the Texas Rangers in 2018. Englert had Tommy John surgery before throwing a professional pitch, before having solid seasons for Down East in 2021 and Hickory in 2022 (with a late season promotion to Frisco).
The Rangers left Englert off the 40 man roster after the 2022 season, and he was selected by the Detroit Tigers in the Rule 5 Draft that winter.
