BOSTON - Takeaways and observations from the Rangers' 12-5 loss to Boston Monday, the club's third consecutive loss:

-- Starting crisis: The Rangers are short-handed in the rotation, which is going to put extra strain on the bullpen, but it's reaching ridiculous levels. Monday's 3.1 inning start by Nick Martinez was the third straight game in which the Rangers starter has gone less than five innings and the seventh time in the last 10 games.
