Thompson, Whatley, Uvila among AFL players

The Texas Rangers have announced that outfielder Bubba Thompson, catcher Matt Whatley, and pitchers Josh Advocate and Cole Uvila will be part of their Arizona Fall League contingent. Texas will send seven players, which means there are three more slots that will need to be filled.

Thompson is the biggest name of this group. The Rangers’ 2017 first round pick has had a disappointing year for Down East, as he has missed team with a strained muscle and a broken hamate bone, and has not hit well when he has been on the field. Whatley, the Rangers 3rd round pick in 2017, has had a middling campaign catching for Hickory, though with a remarkable 29 for 33 rate on stolen bases.
