CARLSBAD, Calif. -- In his first 24 hours on the job, Chris Woodward got a pretty good view of how this gig as Rangers manager is going to work.
He did one press conference, interviews with three TV local TV stations, a national network and three talk shows. When that was finally done, he actually got to spend some time with his players.
This is the reality of being a major league manager these days and presents perhaps the biggest challenge to transitioning into the role. The job is supposed to be about the players. Too often, though, the demands of being a front-man for the team cut into that.
