The Texas Rangers have signed righthanded pitcher Brandon Cumpton to a minor league contract, and intend to use him as a starting pitcher, according to Evan Grant.
Cumpton, 29, was a 9th round pick of the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2010 out of Georgia Tech, and has spent his entire career in the Pirates’ organization. He pitched in the majors in the 2013-14 seasons, years when current Rangers manager Jeff Banister was a bench coach for the Pirates.
Cumpton was a starter for most of his career until undergoing Tommy John surgery in March, 2015.
