The Rangers will become the sixth MLB team to use an 'opener.' Here's what it means.

ARLINGTON -- The Rangers will take the plunge on Monday and use an "opener'' for the first time.

Reliever Jeffrey Springs will start against the Los Angeles Angels at Globe Life Park. The Rangers hope to get at least one inning out of Springs before turning the game over to right-hander Ariel Jurado, a starter by trade.

For a team that has the highest rotation ERA in the majors at 5.46 after an 18-4 win against Minnesota on Sunday, anything is worth a try.

"It's something we've talked about and thought about,'' manager Jeff Banister said.
