The Rangers just sent trio of top prospects to Triple-A; these roster spots remain up for grabs

SURPRISE, Ariz. - The Rangers top prospects are headed to the minor leagues to begin the season.

The Rangers on Monday optioned third baseman Joey Gallo, infielder Jurickson Profar and outfielder Nomar Mazara to Triple-A Round Rock to clear more playing time for players still vying for big league roster spots. In addition outfielder Lewis Brinson, infielder Ryan Cordell and infielder Drew Robinson were all re-assigned to minor league camp.

The six players had performed well during the first three weeks of exhibitions, but the Rangers simply need to spend more time looking at players with a chance to make the club, particularly as they try to sort through a bench situation in which they may carry only one infielder and one outfielder.
