The guy Rangers fans would like to be their manager won't be, perfect fit aside

ARLINGTON -- Sometimes the best man for the job isn't necessarily the right one for the job.

We bring this up in the wake of Friday's firing of Jeff Banister because the press released hadn't even been disseminated and a question about his possible successor was already on the cyber tongues of Rangers fans. Namely: "Will it be Michael Young?"

Alas, no, it will not.

Based on the current trend in major league baseball, you could probably not script a better candidate than Young. The trend is to hire book- and dugout-smart recently-retired players who had formidable major league careers, no management experience necessary.
