After former bullpen coach Oscar Marin departed the organization to join the Pittsburgh Pirates as pitching coach, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reported that the Texas Rangers are set to hire Doug Mathis as a replacement.
Mathis, 36, is a former pitcher for the Rangers and was originally a 13th round draft pick by the club back in the 2005 Amateur Draft. Mathis pitched in three Major League seasons and all of his appearances came for the Rangers. Across the 2008-2010 seasons, Mathis made 45 appearances, predominantly in a relief role, and posted a 4.84 ERA.
