SEATTLE - The Rangers appear ready to move on from injury-plagued former first-round pick Tanner Scheppers.
The club announced Saturday afternoon that Scheppers had been activated from the 10-day disabled list and outrighted off the 40-man roster to Triple-A Round Rock. It means Scheppers went through waivers unclaimed. As a player with more than three years of service, Scheppers can refuse the outright assignment and take free agency.
The Rangers also optioned right-hander Nick Martinez to Round Rock to make room for Andrew Cashner on the 25-man roster. Cashner is scheduled to start tonight against Seattle.
Essentially, it means the Rangers were willing to let any team have Scheppers that was willing to pay his $975,000 contract this season.
