The Texas Rangers optioned pitchers Brett Martin, Ariel Jurado and Jonathan Hernandez to the minors today as part of the team's first round of cuts. Also being sent to the minor league camp were non-roster invitees Jeffrey Springs, Andy Ibanez and Jose Cardona.
None of these moves are surprising — all six players were getting a look in camp but weren't considered legitimate candidates to make the Opening Day roster. Per John Blake, there are 62 players still in the major league camp.
In other procedural news, Anthony Gose cleared waivers and was returned to the Rangers from the Houston Astros, per Blake.
