Texas Rangers add two more minor league pitchers by sending Cory Gearrin to Oakland

ARLINGTON - The Rangers continued their summer of churn Friday ahead of the Sept. 1 waiver trade deadline period by spinning Cory Gearrin, acquired in a July trade, to Oakland for two more pitching prospects.

The Rangers received right-handers Abdiel Mendoza, 19, and Teodoro Ortega, 18, in exchange for Gearrin. It brings the total of pitchers acquired since the first of July 1 to 14, including veteran major leaguers Chris Tillman and Drew Hutchinson. The Rangers also acquired a pair of position players in summer trades.

"There has been an emphasis on the pitching side this summer, but it hasn't been exclusively focused on pitching," general manager Jon Daniels said.
