The Texas Rangers have acquired pitcher Ronald Herrera from the New York Yankees in exchange for lefty Reiver Sanmartin. The 22-year-old Herrera made his MLB debut with the Yankees last season.
The Yankees did not have a spot for Herrera on their 40-man roster, and if kept off he would be eligible for the Rule-5 draft. The newly acquired Herrera will be added to the Rangers 40-man roster and will now be protected.
Herrera went 8-1 with a 1.91 ERA in 14 starts between three different Minor League levels in 2017.
