The Texas Rangers have, it has appeared, settled on their Opening Day roster, and with the final decisions apparently having been made, we can take a look at the payroll situation for the 2025 Texas Rangers. As always, I am pulling this info from Cot’s Contracts.
The big issue with payroll for 2025, as has been talked about quite a bit, is that the organization wants to stay below the Competitive Balance Tax threshold, which is $241 million this year. The Rangers were above the threshold in both 2023 and 2024, meaning that they would pay a penalty of 50% on the first $20 million over that amount if they end up exceeding the threshold this year.
