Taveras, Heim agree to contracts with Rangers

The Texas Rangers today announced that they have agreed on one year contacts with outfielder Leody Taveras and catcher Jonah Heim. They were the only two arbitration-eligible players who were not yet under contract with the team already.

According to reports, the deal with Leody is for $4.75 million, while the deal with Heim is for $4.575 million. MLB Trade Rumors projections had Leody at $4.3 million and Heim at $4.8 million, so this is more or less in line with those projections.

The Rangers continue their streak of avoiding going to arbitration hearings with players. The last time the Rangers had an arbitration hearing was in 2000, when they went to arbitration with Lee Stevens, whom they promptly traded in a three way deal involving Brad Fullmer and David Segui.
