MLB Rumors: Fernando Tatis Jr. and the San Diego Padres have agreed to terms on a 14 year contract worth $340 million, per reports.
This is an amazing, and largely unprecedented, deal in MLB. Tatis, 22, has looked like a legitimate superstar in his first two seasons in the league. He also has just two years of service time, meaning that he would be making just a little more than the league minimum for this year, then would be arbitration eligible.
I was going to say that Tatis would have three years of arbitration eligibility after this 2021, but that’s not necessarily the case, and I wouldn’t be surprised if that were a factor in the Padres making this deal.
