Observations and insights from the Texas Rangers on Friday:
Cleveland 9, Rangers 4, at Goodyear, Ariz.
1. Opening day is nearly four weeks away, but edge is beginning to show. In the first inning, Joey Gallo barked at plate umpire Nick Mahrley over a called third strike. Coach Steve Buechele steered Gallo away from Mahrley. In the eighth, Cleveland catcher Ryan Hanigan and some players in the Rangers' dugout began woofing at each other. Hanigan apparently was unhappy about being buzzed by two pitchers by Keone Kela during a walk in the previous inning.
