Ivan Rodriguez is not the first former Ranger to go into the Hall of Fame.
But he is the first homegrown Ranger.
Nolan Ryan got here at the end of his career. Ferguson Jenkins was more Cub than Ranger. Gaylord Perry? He was his own personal barnstorming show, playing for eight different teams. Bert Blyleven pitched two of his 22 seasons in Texas, though he is most noted as a Minnesota Twin.
Rodriguez, though, who signed at 16 and reached the majors at 19, spent more than a decade with the Rangers and came back to officially retire as a Ranger.
