Significant steps were taken in Rangers' opening-series win over Chicago. Could it be the beginning of something more?

ARLINGTON - The Rangers played nearly 11 hours of baseball on opening weekend. They threw 511 pitches. They allowed an average of nearly three baserunners per inning.

And they ended it somewhere they never were in 2017: With a winning record thanks to an offense best-described as relentless.

When Joey Gallo raced home from third base Sunday on Pedro Strop's pitch so wild, a posse was sent in search of him, the Rangers walked off to an 11-10 win over all-in Chicago, their second win in the three-game opening series.

"There was so much energy in the dugout," said a distinctly hoarse Elvis Andrus.
