Before today’s game, the Texas Rangers placed pitcher Max Scherzer on the injured list with a sore shoulder. To replace him on the active roster, the Rangers have recalled pitcher Walter Pennington from AAA Round Rock.
Pennington was acquired in exchange for Michael Lorenzen at the trade deadline. He gives the Rangers another lefty in the bullpen for now. That said, his stint in the majors may be a short one, as the Rangers need a starter for tomorrow’s game against the Red Sox, and Jack Leiter, who last pitched six days ago, was scratched from his scheduled start for Round Rock tonight.
