Right-hander Tanner Scheppers, who never met high expectations, has departed the Texas Rangers' organization via minor-league free agency.
Scheppers, 30, was entitled to make the move because he has more than three years of major-league service time and had been given an outright minor-league assignment.
The Rangers selected Scheppers with the 44th overall pick in the 2009 draft. It marked the third time he had been drafted. The Rangers gave him a $1.25 million signing bonus.
Scheppers made his major-league debut in 2012. He was 12-7 with three saves and a 4.23 ERA in 180 appearances as a starter and a reliever with the Rangers.
