SURPRISE, Ariz. - Chris Woodward brings a noteworthy streak into his rookie season as the Rangers’ manager.
In 11 seasons as a player and five years as a coach, he has never been ejected from a major-league game. Not when Cowboy Joe West, the dean of umpires, was on the scene. Not when everything was going wrong for his club on a really bad day.
“I get along with umpires,’’ Woodward said. “I try to treat them with respect. ... It’s harder for umpires now than it was in the past.’’
That relationship will be tested this season.
