Could the Texas Rangers have the inside track in the pursuit of Japanese sensation Shohei Otani?
Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported last week that Rangers general manager Jon Daniels and assistant GM Josh Boyd were recently in Japan to get a first-hand look at Otani, the 22-year-old who is expected to play in the major leagues next season.
Otani, dubbed the “Babe Ruth of Japan” because he is both an elite pitcher and hitter, is currently on the disabled list of the Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters and is working out for the club’s minor league team.
