Jordan Romano and the Philadelphia Phillies have agreed to terms on a one year, $8.5 million deal, per reports. The deal also includes an incentive bonus of $500,000 if Romano hits 60 innings.
Romano had been the Toronto Blue Jays closer from 2021-23, and was an All Star in 2022 and 2023. However, Romano allowed ten runs in 13.2 IP over 15 appearances in 2024 before landing on the injured list, and ultimately undergoing season-ending elbow surgery.
Romano was still under team control through 2025, but the Jays opted to non-tender him. He was anticipated to receive slightly less than the amount the Phillies guaranteed him, so this is an instance where the non-tender worked in the player’s favor.
