The Texas Rangers have recalled righthanded reliever Roman Mendez from AAA Round Rock. To make room for Mendez on the active roster, the Rangers have designated lefthanded reliever Ross Detwiler for assignment.
Detwiler was acquired by the Rangers from the Washington Nationals in the offseason, in exchange for Chris Bostick and Abel de los Santos, to be the team's fifth starter. The injuries to Yu Darvish and Derek Holland, however, turned Detwiler into the #3 starter, and whether the #3 starter or the #5 starter, he wasn't up to the task. Detwiler landed on the d.l. in May, and upon returning, he moved into the pen.
