SURPRISE, Ariz. - Starting pitcher Andrew Cashner has been shut down due to biceps tendinitis, the Rangers said Thursday, but the club does not believe it will necessary keep him from being ready for the season opener.
Cashner felt soreness during a bullpen session earlier in the week and hasn't thrown since. He will be examined by team medical director Dr. Keith Meister Friday and the club will then re-assess.
"It's kind of a normal thing for a lot of pitchers," manager Jeff Banister said. "It's happened early enough that we will still have time to get him ready if everything checks out okay.
