The Texas Rangers have reportedly agreed to terms with free agent catcher Andrew Knizner. Knizner, who was non-tendered by the St. Louis Cardinals, is getting $1.825 million, per Jon Heyman.
Knizner, who turns 29 next month, has spent the last several seasons as a backup catcher for the Cardinals. He has not graded out particularly well in framing or controlling the running game, according to the Statcast metrics. He also has just a .216/.290/.331 slash line in 794 career plate appearances, though he did put up a .241/.288/.424 slash in 241 plate appearances last year.
